Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry
It's a meme week, isn't it? Fun stuff. Today's agenda is pretty much class until 3:30, finish Doc, watch Glee, and decompress so I can work my butt off tomorrow. And a meme now.

Comment with one of my characters (past or present) and I will tell you the following:

1. What initially prompted me to like the character enough to write about him/her.
2. One of his/her best traits.
3. One of his/her worst traits.
4. How easy/difficult I find it to write the character.
5. The story/thread/chapter/post/paragraph/tag/phrase where I feel that I truly captured the character.
6. My plans (if any) to write the character in the near future.

1. Weeeell... it kind of starts with Hannah, because I'd been scared off of PB and into HP entirely before Ashbury, but I liked the idea and wanted to join, and she was already there with Reagan, so knowing someone in the game made me more comfortable with the idea. As for Jeremy himself... I think I wanted the flamer originally, but was scared of the previously played bit, since the journal was dead and I was terrified of asking for the notes on the backstory, but... basically, I wanted someone happy, who had issues and neuroses and stuff, but who could balance out the Srs Bizniz that was BL, since BL was my biggest commitment around that point. And the Twink seemed very appropriate for that.

Besides THAT, the premade had three elements I really liked: 1. snark. I like it, I love it, I always want more of it.; 2. put bluntly, a 'hooker with a heart of gold' sort of character, which is one of my favoritest tropes ever; and 3. even just the idea of the Jeremy/Sam love story, with Jeremy being all *village bicycle!* and Sam/the Southern Charmer in general being all *monogamous!* and what can happen with two so opposing personalities falling for each other.

2. He's a lover. In a lot of ways. But, really, Jeremy's best trait is that he really loves people, in general, and when he loves a specific person — whether in the friendship sense or the Sam sense — he throws all of himself into it.

3. More often than not, he lets his desires to be witty and not get hurt come together in a way that really inhibits his ability to be fully honest about what he's going through. Even when he's being honest with people, he's probably going to pull out his wit, deflect EVERYTHING, and go, "Yeah, well, it's sucks but it's not THAT BAD, it COULD BE WORSE, it's totally fine I can handle it." ...And it's not good for him or anyone else. ...Oh, and he still passive-aggressively plays mind-games with Sam sometimes. Not as much as he did before they got together, but if he's having a bad day, he really, really shows his neurotic upbringing in all of the worst ways.

4. It varies. Right now, he's been giving me some difficulty, but then other times, he's easy like ... well, like him before he got together with Sam.

5. http://asylums.insanejournal.com/ashburyic/103902.html TEXAS. Especially the part where Jeremy went out of his way to play stupid and make Sam quote Twilight at him. Because he is the sort of brat who would, immediately after getting concussed and breaking a wrist, go, "You know what this needs? LOLS. What kind of LOLS? SMEYER LOLS."

6. He has Asher to look after, his BFFByron is not having it so well, he's trying out for (and going to play) baseball, I want him to do more still with the GSA because he's overcompensating for running ou on them last year when things Got Awkward with Aster, there's going to be an Epic Family Thanksgiving with Sam's mom, dad, step-parents, and step-brothers and Jeremy's mom and her boyfriend... oh, and probably more drama of the "Jeremy is really feeling the pressure of whether he wants Sam more or random, pointless sex more" variety. Because that is delicious.

Barty!

1. The first time I ever did? Because he was my favorite and I wanted to play an emo kid who'd grow up to be a crazyface, Dark Lord loving murderer. Mostly, I think I did it because I picked him up as my favorite immediately after my first read on GoF (so I was eleven and first played him when I was fifteen), and I really wanted to do a "no one is just born the way they are" sort of thing and explore how he got to be totally nucking futs.

For BL, specifically? I missed him, I wanted to make him more evil, and Chels and Ana went, "YOU KNOW WHAT YOU SHOULD DO? PLAY BARTY."

2. "He's a fucking genius" is the first thing to come to mind, but, really, that both helps him and hurts him, so I have to go with his dedication. He spreads himself too thin all the time, because he wants to be The Best, but, due to years of constant disappointment, he doesn't fully dedicate himself to all that much (like, for BL, he fully dedicated himself to Mummy Dearest, the Dark Lord, Regulus, and Healer Training/but really it was more trying to impress surrogate daddy!Antonin, and that was it)… and when he does fully dedicate himself, yeah, he goes crazy. But that's more just a quirk of how he deals with a lot of things than the result of his dedication.

3. Blind loyalty and the sheer amount of bugfuck crazy going on in that wormy little brain of his. Even taking out the fact that he likes torturing and killing people in the name of the Dark Lord, and even taking out the fact that he spent so. much. time. obsessed with offing Senior, he's not a well boy in the least.

4. Very easy. Barty doesn't sleep; he waits. He lurks around my headspace and periodically goes, "Woman. You aren't giving me enough attention. REMEDY THIS IMMEDIATELY."

5. hooo boy. TOUGH CALL. I think I'm going to have to go with: Fight Club and KIDNAPPED BY RUSSIANS! from BL, interrogating Sturgis from DSAW, and that entry where Fenrir came and started shit from BL.

6. I have him at Causa Mortis and need to go tag a log in which he and Severus are abducting Hestia! Fun times!

Dylan!

1. Dylan's story actually starts with an old character of mine, Liam, whose PB was RPattz before Twatlight went and made him popular. Liam was a serious business overachiever and had a Mom who Did Not Get what her crazy was doing to her son... kind of like Dylan's mom, only Dylan's mom got it after his fairly epic crash and burn. I missed him something awful, so I wanted to retool him for Ashbury, and he could've easily been either the Overachiever or the Genius. Then you suggested Overachiever, because Reagan needed more friends, and I went, "aww k" and he was the overachiever.

...And then he ceased being Liam, turned into Dylan, and the rest is history.

2. He has good traits? ...Okay, fine. He's a big, dumb brainy smartypants and he cares about the few people he trusts to the point of it being too much.

3. Everything else. He's immature, competitive, frequently exercises bad judgment or just outright doesn't listen to people, he makes assumptions, he lets his feelings run away from him, he thinks that being a dumb, brainy smarty means that everyone else is probably wrong, he's a neurotic little panic case, he's a closet case with little apparent reason for it, he failboats at having plans and showing affection, and his propensity for inexplicable downward spiraling drove me crazy. So, yeah. Everything else.

4. Easy, in that he talks. A lot. In great detail. Whether I want him to or not. But hard in that most of his ideas are bad and I hate dealing with his feelings when, a lot of the time, they consist predominantly of *mope*, *sulk*, and *irrational panic*.

5. http://overachieved.insanejournal.com/4144.html Probably that one.

6. Keep him in the time-out box until such time as he decides to stop being a big baby.

Because I really love this Barty entry and this Barty/Reg guy love.

And Dylan demands that I show him in a more positive light.
